These lights are pretty expensive, so let’s start with the question: are they worth the money? Probably not, but let’s break this down a little.These lights are amazing. Period. I have been using Neewer photography equipment for a while, and I have always enjoyed the price-to-quality balance. And I still have to have my first Neewer product that was not of good, if not great, quality. And these lights, from their Neewer Home brands, match that expectation.The lights are of excellent quality and can shine quite bright, or you can dim them per bulb to a nice, subtle brightness. And the fact that you have complete control of their color – also per bulb – makes it possible to create amazing personalized combinations.This customization works through the app, which is quite intuitive. I did not need to do any reading to get it to work. But here lies the problem as well: if you are used to setting up these kinds of things, it is easy. But if you would buy these lights because you heard someone (like me) say they are amazing and easy to use, you might not have the same experience.So, let me explain it right now; if you rely on others to explain how apps work, skip these bulbs and buy simple, pre-colored ones at any other store. They may not be worth the hassle.But if you are, like me, quite tech-savvy, this is a lot of fun to play with.Now, I do want to say that if you don’t want to play around with an app, or are not so tech-savvy, there is a required ‘switch’ connected that lets you turn the lights on and cycle through the different colors and brightness without using the app. Sure, it works – and it works fine – but the default themes are okay… However, if you have them connected to an external timer switch, it will reset every time the switch turns off. That is not good. The lights do not remember their last used theme.Once you use the app, you will notice this. When the lights turn on with an external timer, they forget their custom theme, which they remember when they connect to the Wi-Fi. It takes about 5 seconds for them to restore the last used theme, which is totally fine.I cannot yet say anything about the lifespan of these lights, of course, as I have just hung them in one of our trees in the yard. But it clearly shows that they are premium lights.Of course, this is difficult to show in a photo, but believe me, they are pretty good.So, I am happy with them. But it should be noted that I have been provided these lights for review purposes, and the pricing is quite steep. So, here is that main question: are they worth the money?If you love customization and really want quality lights that work, yeah – they will be worth the money. Keep in mind, these require an internet connection to function correctly. They do not, unlike HUE, work without an internet connection (and those are even much more expensive because of that).If you want to light up your house and property for the holidays, and don’t care about customization or are not comfortable or capable of working with apps, you would be much better off buying cheaper light bulb strings at your local hardware store.I personally love these.

Very bright and tons of presets!
I’m still waiting for a decent break in the weather to put this set of lights up. These will be going along the back porch, replacing an old solar powered string. You get two strings of 15 lights, for a total of 30 lights, the power adapter with control unit, and an extension cord. The extension cord can fit between the control box and the first string, or between the two strings, depending on how you want to set them up.The lights are small, domed units, each with a 3M sticky pad and a screw hole for extra security. They appear well made and well sealed, so should stand up to the weather. The flat, white cabling should blend in well with the eaves. I loosely strung the lights up inside the garage for testing and was amazed at how bright they are! You can, of course, change the brightness setting, but I’m happy that you’ll be able to see the result long before it’s totally dark outside.The control box has an on/off button, a brightness control and a mode selection to switch between some basic modes, but to fully appreciate the lights, you’ll need to install their mobile app. I tried out the Android version, which was fairly easy to set up. You do need to create an account with email and a password. No 3rd party authentication services like Google, Meta, etc. Once installed, it was very quick to select and pair with the lighting kit. It did require me to enter the wifi password for the lights to connect for remote control, but most routers provide isolated guest networks if you’re a little nervous about that sort of thing.The app itself is well made, easy to use, and has a huge selection of presets for the lights – moods, holidays, sports teams, etc. You can even have the lights react to music/sound levels, either through the phone or through a microphone built into the control box.I wasn’t familiar with Neewer, but I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen so far. They’re not quite as expensive as some of the more well known brands, so it’s worth taking the chance.
