Relax in a century old tradition. Crafted in the same manner as it was over a century ago, The Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock is constructed of a continuous woven bed of 100% 3-ply COTTON ROPE and is perfect where space is limited.
Hammock spreader bars are solid SOUTHERN WHITE OAK that’s been hand-dipped multiple times in marine-quality varnish.
The O-rings, chains, and tree hooks are ZINC PLATED STEEL. We needed to have the strength of steel and a corrosion barrier for our hardware to be safe and withstand the elements of the weather.

Fantastic Hammock
This was a Father’s Day present for my husband and it may be the “best” present ever. He is absolutely thrilled. The construction is excellent and seems very sturdy. We secured it between 2 rairoad ties my husband cemented 30″ deep into the ground since we didn’t have 2 trees close enough together or in a location that we preferred. The extra width is great since we can both easily lay in it at the same time. It’s very comfortable and with the pillow I ordered too, it’s a great place to hang out, read, relax or have a nap. It was a big hit at our annual 4th of July party, especially with the kids who mainly used it as a swing. We live in Colorado so I will bring it inside for the winter. Hope it doesn’t wear out soon, but if it does I will definitely order this one again.

Hammock Heaven. Therapeutic! An Oasis!
This is my third Pawleys Island hammock. I have used the same hammock for years! It’s the one to get for sure! This time I hung the hammock between an oak (4’9″ circumference) and a maple (3’3″ circumference). The trees are 18’5″ apart. I used the hooks that came with the hammock. Used a 5/32″ drill for my pilot holes in the trees and used a screwdriver for leverage for the last couple of turns to get the hook eye as close to the tree as possible. The hooks are 5″10′ off the ground which sounds like a lot but it works given the tree distance. I used a taut rope and a level to make sure the two hooks are at the exact same height. Due to the distance between the trees I needed to extend the chains by 2’3″ (bought 2 chains of each 2’3″) and connected them to the chain attached to the hammock with a stainless steel single chain link that opens and closes by a screw closure mechanism (bought 2 of those). Any hardware store will have both. The hardware store I use custom cut the chain to length. At full chain length the hammock swoons a bit and gets within 6″ of the ground. It is fully adjustable. I set it to the 4th chain look on each side and that’s my sweet spot. As the hammock settles in and stretches a bit I may have to change my setting but that’s an easy adjustment. I will also install a hook in my garage so i can easily take the hammock down for the night – or when rain is on the way. I had a hammock pad from my old hammock. Think it’s from LL Bean. I highly recommend it as it provides some measure of protection from bugs biting you from below. Enjoy!

Simply great hammocks & customer service
We are on our 3rd hammock from this company in 10 years. The first one lasted 9 years, always outside in the Florida weather. The second one lasted a year then failed due to a flaw, and the company replaced it immediately and were very easy to work with about it. We are now back to enjoying Florida’s spectacular sunsets in our spacious and comfortable hammock. The hammock is also a magnet for guests…when we have friends and family over and someone goes missing, guess where we find them…yep, in the hammock. These hammocks aren’t cheap, because they aren’t “cheap” hammocks. I can’t imagine not having one of these in my backyard!

The original, the best!
There is no comparison to it’s competitors hammocks! It is the original and the best. Sturdy, looks great (I prefer the clean look of white). This is my FOURTH PAWLEY’s Island hammock. I have always left my hammocks out during all seasons but winter in IOWA. I found they last 5 to 6 years, with the only negative being some discoloration over time. I find that the 100% cotton hammocks are FAR, FAR more comfortable than the synthetic options. I WILL buy again in 5-6 years!

Great Hammock, formerly made in the USA?
I have to start by saying I am very pleased with the quality and workmanship of this hammock. I just unboxed it today and found that it was just as advertised… almost. While the hammock is well sized for two, soft and strong, I noticed the packaging says designed in the USA, while the Amazon listing says manufactured in the USA. While the country of origin is not my chief reason for choosing this brand, I am a little annoyed. My review would otherwise have been 5 stars.

My wife and I bought our first Pawley’s Island Hammock in 1986 shortly before we were married. (We paid $69 at a Service Merhcandise store outside of Chicago.) For years, we used the chains to string the hammock between trees spaced 8-paces apart. For Father’s Day eight year’s ago, my wife and son gave me the stand. Over the years, everyone who saw sat or relaxed in it was awed and had to have one. More than one baby has been safely rocked into slumber in it. At one point, we could fit the whole family on the hammock: me, the wife, son and dog. It was a favorite at family outings. We kept it neatly rolled up and stowed in the car whenever we traveled, just in case there was an opportunity to set it up. Last year, I got lazy and left the hammock outside, it mildewed and one of the line’s parted. Had I taken proper care of it, I’m sure I would have been laying out in it today.So, that led me to ordering the second one, today.I’ll let you know how it turns out. If it lasts half as long, I’ll be a happy camper.6 October 2007Fifteen months have passed and hammock continues to satisfy. No defects noticed.

Oh WOW! Cotton is the best! Stable comfort!
Did my/our homework. Can’t get out of this one! ***Get the cotton***–it really is the most comfortable and our daughters is still going years later–outside now. We just took a cheapo back to Dept store. Expect ours to last just as long. The Presidential is probably what you want? It has room for one to three, and –always use trees to hang the thing using the excellent hardware/instructions provided. The footprint of the stand may be too large for smaller areas but we have the room. Two trees twenty feet apart is good and use chain. We got two five foot sections and got heavy chain and S hooks. This allows adjustment and it does stretch a foot or more–right away. Get your book, Margarita,–pillow, and blanket. You will not leave this crazy thing! It is that cool! Watching for problems–looks like perfect fit so far for our patio areas. I think bigger is better. And this one does not fold you up like a taco. It is very stable! Thanks AMAZON–you are the best!
