From the brand

How did we get our start?
The first Pawleys Island rope hammock was handcrafted by South Carolina riverboat captain Joshua John Ward in 1889 remains the heart of our brand even now. We’ve seen countless knockoffs of the design through the years, yet there’s only ever been one Original.
What makes our products unique?
Our promise to you remains the same today as it has been for more than 130 years now: craftsmanship, quality and tradition woven together in a slice of that relaxed live-oak lifestyle of the old coastal South, right there in your own back yard.
Why do we love what we do?
It’s fundamental to us that our customers are able to trust us to support them and the ones they love in exceptional comfort, style and safety.

DURACORD ROPE: Synthetic blend feels soft like cotton yet wears like polyester; all weather rope resists common impurities and color shift; dense low stretch construction supports a steady lay for daily relaxing in sun or shade
OAK SPREADER BARS: Premium oak hardwood repeatedly hand dipped in honey gold marine grade varnish for protection and longevity; smooth bars keep the bed open and flat for easy entry exit and stable lounging in breezy backyards
DOUBLE LATCH WEAVE: Handwoven lattice where rope pulls against rope to remove bulky knots; generous rope yield creates a sturdier hammock bed and promotes even weight distribution for full body comfort with fewer pressure points
ZINC PLATED HARDWARE AND ACCESSORIES: Zinc plated rings chains and tree hooks resist rust for a longer outdoor life; free extension chains simplify setup and let you fine tune hanging length between sturdy trees posts or a compatible stand
HANDCRAFTED IN THE CAROLINAS: roomy two person design for porches patios and gardens; assembled in the USA with careful techniques for dependable seasons of relaxation. Measures 13 ft x 55 in and supports up to 450 lb

Most Under Rated Hammock on Amazon!
I almost didn’t buy this hammock because of some of the other reviews. I have to say this is an amazing hammock. It looks so much better in person than the picture I can’t even begin to describe how surprised and pleased I was when I took it out of the box. The ropes are so comfortable I suppose I may not have believed it had they said so.The craftsmanship is also top notch. The knots all seem very secure and look consistent with each other. The antique brown color looks so inviting that you’ll just want to jump right on it. The spreaders are also look very classy, this is definitely a hammock I will want to show off to my friends.I’ve got some beautiful pics and will upload as soon as I figure out how.If you are on the ropes do not hesitate, this is one fine hammock!!!***** Springtime here in New Mexico and I’m bringing my hammock to start its 5th season. Still no fraying or broken pieces. 5 years later and I still stand by my original comments!!! Keep in mind this hammock had stood up to the hot New Mexico sun!!!

Great quality, lasted 10 years
Loved this hammock. Comfortable rope, creamy color weathered to a good neutral. Not inexpensive, but lasted 10 years under oak trees with zero protection. Hammock itself is still fine, but one of the spreader bars eventually broke/rotted. It did occasionally get hit by large fallen tree branches, so that may have been a contributory factor. Going to try a cheaper one this time, but suspect it won’t be as good and we’ll be back for another of these.

Comfy, attractive and sturdy hammock
I love our hammock! It is such a relaxing way to enjoy the outdoors! Well made and very comfortable. The attached S hooks and chain allows you to adjust the height. It is a wonderful addition to our backyard.

Review of Pawleys Island hammock
A little bit saggy, but ultra comfortable and well constructed.

Durable
We’ve had this hammock for 17 years, and it has held up really well, often supporting two people and a dog. We usually store it for the winter, but sometimes just let it pile up with snow. One of the strings finally broke this summer, but we think we can fix it. The hammock is still usable in the meantime. Definitely happy with this purchase.

Top of the line, excellent – used entire summer
Absolutelty top-notch. I left it out in rain, shine and fog for 6 months now. Don’t have the energy to get it inside each time it rains (and oh boy, did it rain this summer in Dallas!). Each time sun shines back, my hammock is as great-feeling, as shiny and as taut as new. This weekend I had a party in my backyard, and my guests turned on the rough heat a little bit – they were even using it as a swing, three adults at a time. I was a little concerned, but at the end it was as if nothing happened. Kind of the feeling you get after you complete your first cross-state long drive with your Honda or Toyota – you are concerned whether your car is OK, but that trip was not even as much as a dent on its mind-boggling robust engineering. Pawleys rocks!Mine and my wife’s inexperience at the beginning resulted in a very scarily tangled up knot – all the hammock’s ropes seemed to be tied to evry other piece of rope and passing through every other hole. But we slept on ot for a night, and gave it another shot next day. An intricate amount of mathematical calculations saved the day, and the hammock was straight again. It was us to blame in the first place – be careful to handle the hammock the right way. While rolling up, use the wood bars at the ends as anchor. Do not try fancy styles or get inattentive while rolling it up or down.

LOVE THIS HAMMOCK!
We usually put the hammock outside. My husband put this one on our screen room on a whim. The grandkids enjoy it so much there and so do we. No bugs, no rain, no birds bother us now with it on this room. It is very well made, and it fits the LL Bean hammock stand we have had for years. We are 75, and the other hammock we had purchased kept throwing us on the ground. I put that one on the side of the road in front of the house and someone else younger than us can deal with it! (It was gone in 5 minutes.)If you need a hammock, just spend the money and get this hammock. It is worth it.
