Minimalist, Lightweight, and DIY-Friendly. Not Unfinished, But Definitely Simple
I received the Rustic Torched version of this tray, and while I understand why some reviewers felt it looked “unfinished,” I’d describe it more as intentionally minimalist. It’s made of Paulownia wood, which, if you are expecting oak or pine can feel very lightweight and “cheap” in contrast. It is sustainable, but also a softwood, so it won’t have the weight or density of oak or pine or walnut. If you want the heft of those woods this might not be for you.The torching is subtle…so subtle that if I hadn’t read the listing, I might’ve missed it. I have a feeling that the wood is a naturally very light and monochrome blonde so the torching provides the contrast seen-which might be normal level for, say, a white oak. The clear protective finish is real, though; it’s lightly varnished, not raw wood. It resists water and wipes clean easily, which is important if you’re using it for drinks or snacks. The design is plain: no handles, sharp clean corners, and a box-like frame. But the craftsmanship on mine is solid, with neat joints and smooth surfaces. I can see how some might be tempted to customize it. Personally I think it’s a great blank canvas for staining, painting, stenciling or even lining. It’s not cheap, so if you’re looking for a more finished look “out of the box” so to speak, one of the darker stained options or painted choices might be a better fit. That said, the size is perfect for large ottomans or coffee tables, and the deep sides keep items from slipping off. It’s simple and functional. For a DIY-inclined person like me, it’s full of potential.

PERFECT SIZE
We have a long, wide ottoman and those sitting in the middle have no where to put drinks/snacks. Each end has their own table with lamps. This tray is perfect size to leave sitting on the foot rest and simply move where needed. Thank you!

Has no handles so I wouldn’t really consider it to be a tray if you can’t move it with stuff on it
I’m underwhelmed. Is it a giant tray? YES! Does it have handles for easy carrying? NO. Does it have little rubber feet or anti-skid pads on the bottom? NO. Is the wood hard enough to handle everyday wear and tear that involves children, utensils and putting things on and off frequently? Not in our household. You can press your fingernail in the wood and make an indent. If you have kids that toss things like utensils around when “helping” set the table for a gathering, then, this is going to have dings sooner rather than later. It’s HUGE. It’s not worth the price. Very lightweight. If it had been made of better quality wood, had a varnish or polyurethane water-resistant finish rather than just a stain, had handles and feet or bumpers on the bottom, it would be worth the price. As is, it is an underwhelming large square “tray” that is impossible to move with items on it because it HAS NO HANDLES

Low quality build
This Ottoman Tray was a huge disappointment. They advertise as a classic rustic brown tray, but it was giving cheap and unfinished. There were chipped or rough surfaces around the tray and spots that weren’t completely colored. Besides the build, it’s a huge flat tray that can hold drinks and other items.

Decently built, very purposeful
This is a great little tray for using in your living room or anywhere you need a good amount of a hard surface space where you typically don’t have one. I’ve used it in bed for when I’m assembling LEGO sets, and it’s currently being used in the living room on the ottoman as a place to put drinks/magazines/food/etc. It’s also got a very large surface, so you can carry a good number of items on it in one trip (like if you’re bringing back snacks and drinks from the kitchen to the living room).Quality is mediocre at best, but it does the job. Probably on par with IKEA type furniture. The edges are super sharp, though, so be careful you don’t scratch yourself or poke anyone with it.

Dirty/used
Product came dirty. Looks like it has oil or grease stains in the wood. Very disappointed. Wouldn’t recommend.
