The Sharp KC-850U Triple Action Plasma cluster Air Purifier with Humidifying Function purifies a room up to 254 square feet. It offers a unique combination of air treatment technologies to make you more comfortable, whatever the season. Bacteria, germs, mold spores, pollen, pet dander, smoke, dust and odors can make breathing harder, especially for asthma and allergy sufferers. Sharp’s Plasma cluster air purifier helps remove these irritants with an ultra quiet fan that draws air through a 3-stage filter system. This filter system plus the revolutionary Plasma cluster Ion Technology for air purifiers makes the air healthier and cleaner smelling. For an even more comfortable environment, sensors constantly monitor the air quality in your room, adjusting the fan for air purity while providing the optimum humidity level. This combination of features is a smart way to choose cleaner, healthier, more breathable air. SAFE: Sharp’s Plasma cluster Ion Air Purifier is not only ARB Certified. It produces 5X less ozone (at less than 0. 01 ppm) than the lowest industry and federal standards set by the FDA, OSHA and NIOSH. VERIFIED AROUND THE WORLD: Plasma cluster Ion Technology has been tested and confirmed in 17 tests by laboratories in the USA as well as in the U. K. , Germany, Japan, South Korea, China and Vietnam. BUILT-INTO OVER 80 MILLION PRODUCTS SINCE 2001: Sharp Plasma cluster Technology has been used in over 80 million products worldwide, including leading automakers, to reduce odors and refrigeration appliance manufacturers to help keep food refresher longer. PROVEN EFFECTIVE In reducing certain viruses including MS2 (Viral Stimulant) In reducing certain bacteria including E-Coli, Staphylococcus, epidermidis, and Serratia marcescens. In reducing in certain common molds and fungus, including Penicilillum and Aspergillus Niger; and most odors that conventional filters don’t reach. NATURALLY ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY FOR TRULY CLEAN AIR. Sharp’s exclusive patented Plasma cluster ion technology eliminates microscopic pollutants that traditional filters cannot trap-even those trapped in fabric, carpeting, and drapery! -by replicating nature’s own cleaning process of producing positive and negative ions from water vapor in the air. It is an ideal solution for allergy sufferers, asthmatics, pet owners, and smokers, and best used in a bedroom, living room, study, or exercise room. TRIPLE FILTRATION SYSTEM: washable pre-filter traps dust and other large airborne particles that passes through the filters. Activated carbon deodorizing filter removes odors that passes through the filters. TRUE HEPA filters effectively remove 99. 97% of particles from the air that passes through the filter from 0. 3 microns and larger. SMART SENSOR: in Auto Operation, fan speed is automatically controlled depending on amount of impurities in the air. The sensors detect impurities for efficient air purification. Each dust and odor indicator shows the quality of impurity to purity of air. LOWER OPERATING COST: long life TRUE HEPA filters typically require changing only every 2 to 5 years, so operating costs are low. (Actual filter life will differ depending on the environment). OTHER KEY FEATURES: Quick clean mode: releases high density plasma cluster ions; Switch the control light from bight to dim or off; and set the fan to low speed, at the quiet 26db for sound sleep. The KC850U features Max, Med, and Low fan speeds, plus Pollen, Quick Clean, and Auto Mode. In Auto Mode, the sensors will monitor your air quality and adjust the fan speeds automatically. The KC850U includes a humidifier that may make your home more comfortable. The Library Quiet® Low setting is perfect for the bedroom.
HUMIDIFIER: Auto Mode monitors air quality and adjusts air purification and humidity levels.
TRIPLE FILTRATION: The triple filtration system helps clean the air that passes through the filters in three ways. First, the washable, microscreen pre-filter traps dust and other large airborne particles. Second, the activated carbon deodorizing filter helps reduce some common household odors. Finally, the True HEPA filter effectively captures 99.97% of particles from the air that passes through the filter that are 0.3 microns and larger.
ACTIVE CLEANING: Beyond triple filtration, our KC850U features Plasmacluster Ion Technology for an active cleaning process. Sharp Plasmacluster Ion Technology has been tested by laboratories around the world.
LONG LIFE FILTERS: Includes an Activated Carbon Deodorizing Filer, a Long-Life True HEPA Filter, and a Humidifying Filter that may last up to 5 years depending on the environment.
3-FAN SPEEDS PLUS QUICK CLEAN: Max, Med, and Low Fan Speeds, plus Pollen, Quick Clean and Auto Modes.

    Great for allergy sufferers
We have used this for years in our bedrooms and it really helps with our allergies. I’ve got the smaller version for my daughter’s room. Make sure to get some good quality citric acid to clean the humidifier filter monthly and this thing will last forever. Good food grade citric acid is available here on Amazon and that’s what I use, along with a 5 gallon HD bucket. I use the water tank for this thing to weight down the filters carefully so they stay fully submerged. Its not very loud and creates a light white noise for you that isn’t too obtrusive. The filters all last a pretty long time and have different change frequencies outlined in the manual. You can get all of the filters from here on Amazon. My allergies are so bad I have to get weekly allergy shots and this really helps. I was also able to get a letter of medical necessity from my allergist so we could claim this on our medical FSA.

    Smart and efficient
The auto sensor is very effective at detecting odors and the plasmacluster system noticeably improves air quality. Excellent humidifying function as well, and everything runs very quietly.

Great unit – watch the prices.
Greatly improves air quality.Purchased via Amazon Prime two months ago, new, for 299. Prices fluctuate a lot on these, and other vendors charge even more.In a dry climate, on high fan speed (I have it in a larger bedroom and as such it really only works on high) you have to refill the H2O tank twice a day. It’s worth the hassle.Over the years I’ve tried Winix, Honeywell, Friedrich, Austin Air, Holmes, and others too cheap to mention. This Sharp has worked the best of the bunch. Not a miracle worker, but does what it says it will.Vastly superior to Winix, no contest.Filters – expensive & not available everywhere. Wish the unit came with at least one extra charcoal filter. 3-5 year filter life seems impossible, could happen if your air is already pretty clean. I’ll be surprised if I get two years out of this filter set.Looks great, which is a nice bonus. The color-changing air quality indicator is a very nice feature. The clicking of the Plasmacluster is noticeable on lower fan speeds. The unit is designed & built well. Plastic, but doesn’t feel cheap. Recessed handles make it easy to move.Really has improved the quality of sleep in the bedroom.

    an innovative air purifier
So many air purifiers in the $100 to $300 range are essentially the same thing: fan + HEPA filter + carbon pre-filter. You’d think for that much money there would be more to it. On top of that the designs are typically more industrial than consumer oriented. While Sharp KC-850U at its core is still just HEPA + carbon prefilter, it’s leaps and bonds better in all the other regards than the market norms.Pro:* The embossed front panel design looks clean and modern* It has sensor that monitors air quality and humidity and adjust itself accordingly* LED light’s brightness can be adjusted and turned offCon:* The humidifying functionality is rather weak, it’s not enough to replace my stand alone humidifier in the living room* replacement filters are expensive, according to the manual the HEPA filter (around $100) and carbon filter (around $60) good for 5 years, humidification filter ($35) is good for 2 years. You can wash the carbon filter and humidification filter, but in my experience they can only be washed so many times before they wear out.* These Sharp air purifiers are far from mainstream, makes me worried how long I’ll be able to purchase the filters before they are discontinuedI’m tempted to -1 star for the lackluster humidification performance, but the unit is so well designed with great attention to detail comparing to everything else I’ve seen, it deserves a 5.

works well, but you can’t place it against the wall.
i’ve been using this for a day now, i know it’s not a fair test i suppose, but if i wait a week i’ll probably never review it. anywayi gave this a 4 because i don’t like the air sucking from the back, it has no remote, it’s expensive, and the lights don’t dim when the lights are off, in fact the top ones stay on.i chose this one over winix because sharp invented the plasmacluster and i think they are stronger, and you can turn the stream on.i chose the humidifier because i do need extra moisture in the winter, the hepa showed it had a longer life and you can wash the pre-filter.noise:on low, you can barely hear it, you have to put your ear up to it. you know it’s on because plasmacluster clicks. sort of a light ticking sound, like a tiny arc. but constant.on med, its louder, more like a soft computer fan, it’s a hush from a distance of about 3′ away, like a spring breeze. the cluster however changes tone – on and off in 1.5 second intervals. the sound is similar to that of a quill pen scratching across paper. annoying, but not overly so. you can’t hear it from a distance of about 10′ but it’s there. i was hoping the louder fan (i like a little white noise), would hush it out, but the cluster just gets louder.on max – it’s a bit over bearing to listen too, like a hair dryer.on pollen – it surges high and low, like a rolling wave. it’s hypnotic and distracting. the instruction are confusing in this mode and quick clean where you need or don’t need water in the tank. it seems to work without.on auto, it stays on low unless its needed to be faster.the odor detector works, i had to use it like chloroform and place it in a tissue of the sensor. vinegar made the green light blink. wintergreen alcohol made the unit angry and the lights turned orange to red. so that seems to worki haven’t used the humidifier yet, it doesn’t hold a lot of water, so i don’t have high hopes for this. as an air cleaner the room is fresher – keep in mind for the first 6 hours or so the room will smell like a cross between a dept store and a pool. a deep chlorine smell. it is absorbed by the unit though.plasmacluster has many claims – removes static, makes your skin moister by placing a layer of water molecules over the skin and prevents evaporation (i find that hard to believe). they say it kills some viruses, mold and smells in the air. it can even clean the scent from cloth. i did test that last one, i have a beaver skin that had a perfume scent in it. and in 20 hours that perfume is gone. so if you have a lover that left a perfume note or pillow case – that scent will be gone quickly.someone complained about asthma and plasma – no issues here… however my eyes are very dry. someone mentioned that their air seems to get dryer with the plasma on. and this also seems true. with the door closed in my room, i started with 50% humidity, now it’s 40%. which is probably why my eyes are dry.oh and though i mentioned it, turning the lights off only turns the decorations off in the front. not the top lights, though they look dim, they are bright enough to cast green circles on the ceiling. it’s rather annoying. i would rather have everything turn off when the lights go out. you still need the panel on to tell you your out of water. though the tank on the side does seem to have a window. the water basin btw looks tricky to clean.

The Sharp humidifier has been an exceptional addition to my home. It’s quiet, powerful, and keeps the air perfectly balanced without feeling damp or stuffy. The water tank lasts a long time, the controls are simple, and the air just feels cleaner and more comfortable. It also runs smoothly with no weird smells or noises. Overall, it’s a reliable, high-quality humidifier that works exactly the way it should, and I’m extremely happy with it.

I already have one Sharp KC -8500 but I wanted to have a second one. But just when I ordered it I noticed that therewas an other one the KC-8600 which has a larger water capacity. But when I wanted to cancel my first order I was toldthat my order was already prepared for shipment .Anyhow I like the sharp KC-8500. It is very expensive ( espelely the filters) But you always get what you pay for. I am more than happy with It. Over night I have both running an Auto and you don’t hear nothing.

I like how it has a build in humidifier with display showing the humidity level. It has different modes. It’s pretty quiet with the low fan. I do like this product a lot but I wish it’s smaller and doesn’t take up as much space.

This is is my second unit and is needed to keep humidity at desired levels. The design appears to be exactly the same although my first unit is well over 10 years old. It is built well, works well and worth its relatively high cost if you are thinking you will need its functions for many years. It does have some drawbacks: there are several filters and some (HEPA) are expensive and you have almost no choices in where to get them; there is routine maintenance required (anything with water almost always does) at least every two or three months; and, the water tank needs refilling twice a day (could be bigger). Final thought, I snapped it up when I saw it available and had the money.

Cosmetically, this item was nearly perfect. I did wonder if the filters would be new or used…. the answer is “used”If you had to replace the filters with original Sharp Filters, it would be pretty expensive but order a set of the off label variety and you save a bundle. The purifier/humidifier works great! Just change the filters 🙂
