This is second time I buy the Woodstock Chimes Encore Collection — Chimes of Mercury. The first one lasted for more than 5 years until it broke during a heavy storm. These chimes are great to place at the front of the house. Thes workmanship is good quality. Also, the sound is relaxing however they are small so not very loud to bother your neighbors.

These chimes have a beautiful, bell-like ring. Unlike most chime companies, they know how to suspend and ring the tubes correctly for a pleasingly slow ring decay.The sound recording included in the item description is accurate.Highly, highly recommended!

Love windchimes
I was disappointed to learn Woodstock sold to a company in South Dakota that is now having the chimes made in China. And, of course, the fabulous customer service, including restringing chimes, if needed, is no longer an option, Fortunately, my 12 other sets are original Woodstock chimes made in the USA.That said, the tone of the new chime is good, although I hear the difference in one chime, and they look great.

It’s the perfect size for my porch and it is SO loud
I cannot believe the low price of this little wind chime. It’s the perfect size for my porch and it is SO loud! But not in a bad way!… it’s just awesome how much punch this thing has considering the size of it. Extremely high quality, and I’m already trying to figure out where I can put a second one!The only thing I’m wary about is the nylon(?) string used. It’s very thin and flimsy-looking, I’m not sure how well it would hold up if the chime is out in the elements. But so long as you keep it in a covered area I think it’ll be fine.

The chimes sound wonderful, not overbearing or jarring like you get with some others. The length is just right as they hang off the branch of a jade plant in the courtyard. They have been put to the test in some very gusty winds recently and you would think it might become annoying but because they are so beautifully tuned, it wasn’t an issue.

I was worried it was going to be too small but it is a perfect size. It looks like good quality and it sounds beautiful. This was for a gift for someone else (they are happy with it.) I may have to buy another one for myself!

I use wind chimes not in the standard way (I live in a small flat in a social housing scheme), but I take them out to wild places and make professional grade recordings of natural soundscapes including the wind chimes. The Chimes of Mercury were among the three different really small and light sets of chimes that I bought in the spring of 2013 to take out on some of my Cornwall coast path hikes, to suspend on tripods on clifftops so that I could have the chimes sounds in soundscapes of often really interesting and sometimes dramatic sea action.The Mercury chimes are actually the smallest and highest-pitched of those that I bought. To my ears they are about as high as a set of chimes could go while one could still be able to clearly hear and differentiate between the pitches of each note. Go anything much higher and one would hear rather undifferentiated tinklings. Because they are so small, their sound is not only high pitched, but it doesn’t carry very far – which can be an advantage, depending on one’s own situation. For my purposes I put the small chimes relatively close to the recorder and the larger ones further back, in order to get a good balance.The tuning of these chimes is to a mode on the pentatonic scale, and it really is incredibly, hauntingly, beautiful, going particularly well with sea sound. The only thing is that these bronze chimes are rather shrill toned. If I wanted the Mercury chimes for more normal use I would have chosen the silver finish version, for that has a smoother and more refined tone. However, I deliberately chose the bronze finish version of this and the Mars chimes in order to have some variety of tone in my chimes ensemble recordings – and I think that worked extremely well.Actually I have made available a lot of CDs of my ‘Wind Chimes in the Wild’ series, which include Cornish clifftop recordings some of which use the Mercury chimes – all of which you can find if you Google “philip goddard e-store” (not in quotes).
