What kind of lightbulb does the wall sconces use?

All the bulbs based E26 is compatible for our Yosoan light, the MAX watt is 60 for the light. You can use LED; Compact Fluorescent (CFL); Halogen; Incandescent

Can this be installed upside down?

Yes. there is a white retaining ring that screws the shade down to the light bulb socket, but a standard sized bulb will be visible from certain angles.
